Evolution, Science and Judaism: A Jewish View examines some of the fundamental questions at the intersection of modern science and Jewish belief. What can science tell us about the origins and development of life? What are the limits of scientific explanation? And how should the theory of evolution be understood in relation to the Jewish belief in Creation?
Isaac Joseph Brandstädter explores evolutionary theory, scientific methodology, biology, physics, and the origin of life while considering the philosophical assumptions that can shape interpretations of scientific evidence. Drawing on an extensive range of scientific sources and the writings of prominent scientists, he distinguishes between scientific findings, scientific theories, and the broader philosophical conclusions sometimes drawn from them.
From a traditional Jewish perspective, Evolution, Science and Judaism challenges a purely materialistic understanding of life and considers the place of divine design and Creation alongside the discoveries and limitations of modern science.
